Athlete Birthdate: 9/21/1990

Andy, the newest member of Venom has quickly burst onto the national 
goalball scene in the past year.  In youth competition , Andy helped 
win BSO's first Youth National Championship, as well as being named 
tournament MVP.  He also won a silver medal in 2007 with the US Youth 
National Team. Andy didnt just stop there however.  He has recently 
become an integral member in the powerhouse that is Venom.  Playing 
for 3 years with #2 teams for PABA, he learned the game from mentors 
like the Mulhern brothers, Coach Gontaryk and Darryl Green.  Darryl 
even coined Andy's first nickname, "phenom."  Jenks was also recently 
named as an alternate for the 2008 National Goalball Team.

Andy is currnetly a high school junior enrolled in a handful of AP 
classes while also playing his bari sax in various groups including 
the Delaware All-State Jazz Band.  His tall frame and love of the game 
have helped him to be able to compete with players more than 10 years 
his senior.  At the age of 17, Jenks has the potential to have a long 
goalball career with PA Goalball.

Athlete Birthdate: 11/27/1982

Darryl D. Green, as a teammate, a friend or an opponent was competitive, but kind and caring, and always put others in front of himself. He loved sports with a passion. He knew every athlete on any team that you could think of, from any sport, or any level of competition. When he started in the sport of goalball, he was a kid who needed guidance and leadership. He needed a sport he could excel in, where his disability wouldn’t be a disadvantage. Goalball was that sport. We all came to know Darryl through the sport of goalball as well as other blind sports and opportunities. We know he loved the competition. He wanted to be considered an elite athlete, like some of his favorites in Pro Football, such as Darryl Green and Sean Taylor of the Washington Redskins.

Darryl grew into a fierce competitor. He was a defensive minded athlete, a National Champion and was considered to be a Paralympic hopeful. He was well known for his clutch scoring, in which he had a trademark curve that no one could replicate. He was never an offensive threat, but just when you forgot about him, he would squeak a curve right down your throat. He played his entire goalball career with Steven Mulhern, and two developed a friendship that could be compared to brothers. He was close to both of the Mulhern Brothers. The guys developed the team name, Venom, at a practice. When the team looked to be tough both offensively and defensively, they (John, Steven and Darryl) asked Coach Gontaryk how he liked the taste of Venom. The name stuck, and is still the team name today. Steven and Darryl admired the toughness that Tornado showed as they competed in regional tournaments as the Vultures. They wanted to take the next step from 3rd place level to National Champions. The three started Venom in 2003, and continued on to win 2 regional tournaments and a National Championship. As Darryl was passing the ball when we needed a score, or were being merciless, he would always say to the Mulhern brothers, “It’s time to inject the Venom.”

Darryl was killed by a hit and run driver 6/3/07. He will always be apart of VENOM and the Goalball Community. Rest In Peace Darryl We will Miss you dearly.

John was born and raised in Philadelphia PA. He has been playing goalball for 19 years now.  He is a retired board Member of the Blind Sports Organization.   John is also tbe webmaster of pagoalball.com and assistant coach to Greg Gontaryk. John has brought great fame to the Pennsylvania Tornado and Venom goalball teams which has been the National Champions four of the last 9 years.

His Nicknames are "TubbyTornado" or "Cobra". John was born with Anredia, congenital cataracts, possibility of glaucoma, mistigitism and the list goes on and on. However, John's disability does not prevent him from doing what he loves and that is playing goalball. "Goalball Is life" for John. Do not mistake John's shyness as a weakness on the court. It would cost you a game and a quick end to your day!

Josh Schwartz was born in Abington PA. He moved to Yardley and then to Warrington where he has resided ever since. Since stepping out onto the court 2 years ago Josh has proven to be a tremendous aset to the team. His motivating words and hard work pay off as he constantly raises the bar for himself. His positive attitude creates a fun playing atmosphere for the entire team.

When he's not on the court playing goalball, Josh enjoys working out and hanging out with friends. He is a full time college student with a 3.9 GPA and is vice president of the company Face It Honey. When asked how he finds time for everything in his life he replied "It's tough but once you learn how to set your priorities the rest falls into place." So be on the lookout for this athlete as he looks to go for the gold!!!
